The client had a requirement for a purpose built dual drum reeler, for use in a Zone 2 hazardous environment on various projects including decommissioning scopes. Brimmond Group was commissioned to design and engineer a pneumatically driven dual drum spooler suitable for use within a Group II Category 3 (Zone 2) hazardous environment and NORSOK Z-015 certified for temporary equipment.

Solution

The pneumatically driven dual drum spooler is housed within a DNV 2.7-3, Type A, Class R60 protective frame, with the sides of the asset protected with removable galvanised wire mesh guards.

The Dual Drum Spooler is capable of spooling two different umbilicals independently of one another, with both drums driv-en by separate drive units. The larger of the two drums stores 260m of 7-way hydraulic umbilical with an OD of 82mm and the second drum can store 2 x 32mm OD lines each 223m in length. Both drums have an automatic diamond cut level wind system that can be manually overridden. Both drums are driven by a 4-stage right angle drive with an integral fail safe brake.

Scope of Supply

  • DNV 2.7-3, Type A, Class R60 Spooler
